The Oregon State Bar’s Appellate Practice Section is pleased to announce and solicit nominations for two section awards: (1) the Access to Justice Award and (2) the Distinguished Service Award. Descriptions and criteria for the awards are below.
Nominations are due October 15, 2025. The awards will be given at the Oregon State Bar’s Day with the Court CLE.
Access to Justice Award
Access to Justice Nomination Form
This award recognizes the recipient’s exceptional commitment to providing access to justice in Oregon’s appellate courts. Nominations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- The recipient is a legal professional, i.e., an attorney, paralegal, legal assistant, judicial officer, judicial assistant, or similar.
- The recipient has demonstrated a long-term commitment to access to justice in appellate law in Oregon, such as substantial pro bono advocacy, extensive public service, significant service to under-represented or low-income clients, or other substantially similar professional or volunteer experience.
- The recipient has worked to increase access to justice in the appellate courts and ensure that under-represented individuals have their appellate cases heard.
Distinguished Service Award
Distinguished Service Award Nomination Form
This award recognizes the recipient’s exceptional contribution to appellate law in Oregon. Nominations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- The recipient is a legal professional, i.e., an attorney, paralegal, legal assistant, judicial officer, judicial assistant, or similar.
- The recipient has demonstrated a long-term commitment to excellence in the field of appellate law.
- The recipient has demonstrated, throughout their career, a high level of collegiality, professionalism, and skill in the field of appellate law.
- The recipient’s work in the appellate field has improved the Appellate Practice Section or the practice of appellate law in Oregon.
